New Patients at Shaw Dental Health

Finding a new dentist shouldn’t feel like a first date. Whether it’s been six months or six years since your last visit, we want your first appointment at Shaw Dental Health to feel calm, unhurried, and genuinely helpful. Here’s everything you need to know before you walk through the door.

Comfort-focused, patient-forward, and never rushed — from your first phone call to your first cleaning.

What to Expect at Your First Visit

Your first visit is about two things: getting to know you, and giving you a complete picture of your oral health. We won’t rush through it and we won’t recommend treatment you don’t need.

Here’s what the visit looks like:

  • A short conversation. Before anything else, we’ll talk. What brings you in, what’s worked or hasn’t at past dental practices, any concerns or anxieties, and what you’d like your mouth to look and feel like going forward.
  • A thorough exam and digital imaging. Dr. Shaw uses modern intraoral scanners and low-radiation digital X-rays to get a complete picture of your teeth, gums, and bite so recommendations are based on what’s actually going on.
  • A professional cleaning. In most cases, your first visit includes a cleaning with one of our hygienists. If more work is needed, we’ll explain why and schedule it separately.
  • A simple treatment plan. If anything needs attention, you’ll leave knowing what, why, how much, and in what order with no surprises later.

Plan on about 60 to 90 minutes for your first appointment.

Before Your First Visit

A few things to have ready so your first appointment runs smoothly:

  • A photo ID and your dental insurance card (if applicable)
  • A list of any medications you take
  • Records or X-rays from a previous dentist, if you can get them (we can also request these for you)
  • Completed new patient paperwork (fill out when you arrive)

Insurance We Accept

We work with most PPO plans. To find out if we accept your insurance call us at (706) 891-2008. We'll always do our best to make it work for you.

Payment & Financing

For patients without insurance, or for treatment that falls outside what insurance covers, we offer several ways to make quality dental care manageable:

  • Cash, check, and all major credit cards. Standard payment options accepted at the front desk.
  • HSA and FSA cards. Most dental care qualifies as an eligible health expense. Bring your card.
